Khess is played on a board of 61 hexagonal cells, in 9 rows.
Rows are numbered from 1, on White's side, to 9. Files go from a to i.
Each cell touches up to six others. Moving to one of them is a step, and most moves in Khess are counted in steps.
The pieces
Each player starts with 16 pieces. White moves first, and then the players take turns, one move each.
